OS for babies

I have a beautiful 7 year old nephew that I love very much. We go out every Sunday to play soccer and just fool around all day. One thing that always has bugged my mind since he was born is finding a way to get him interested in computers from an early age. Not that I am very fond of the idea of sticking a child in front of a computer monitor… I would eternally prefer if we lived in a world were we could live without technological dependence. But I cannot undo evolution and computers are an everyday must. I always wanted to find a way to balance computer knowledge and at the same time prevent him from accessing unsuitable information. I think this is a great solution. Operating system Quimo has it all. Child oriented games, easy bookmarking and an extremely attractive graphical interface. It doesn’t even need installation since it can be launched form a CD.

Benchmark tests: Ubuntu vs Vista vs Windows 7

I just found this interesting post by the guys at Tuxradar, where they publish their results at benchmark tests between Linux Ubuntu, Windows Vista, and Microsoft’s new darling, Windows 7. I have to say that I thought Windows 7 will be ass whipped by Ubuntu in almost all trials, but strangely enough, they did well in almost all tests. Not that bad at all. But you still aren’t no OSX!

Ubuntu 8.10 with a brand new user interface

Designers are planning to change Ubuntu’s Graphic Interface. The first alpha of it’s new version, Intrepid Ibex, showed a darker interface.

It’s not sure this will be the final GUI, but it’s the one working in the first alpha, and it will surely change according to the testers feedback. I personally find it too dark and the contrast is not efficient enough. The current interface Ubuntu has doesn’t please users at all, that’s why a change is very important, still, criticism regarding this new interface didn’t waited. Let’s see what further Alpha Versions will show, hopefully a little less brown.
