Are we facing the return of command Line interfaces?

What is a search box, other than a command line input? Don’t we ask Google what we want to find with defined words? Well, I just found this plug-in called “Ubiquity” from Mozilla labs that I think is the first step into a new age of browsing and information. The possibilities of something like this really blows your mind. Check it out. Thanks a lot to Ron Norman and his article for pointing me out in the right direction.

One of Firefox’s undisputed strengths so far in the browser wars, is the good amount of plug-ins and extensions available for them. I personally use Hyperwords, and it has really changed the way I surf the net. Check this list of top extensions I found on Kumail H.T’s Blog where you can find from ad blockers to FTP.

Did you notice that the latest Firefox has a download notification bar at the lower right area? Shit, I took that improvement for granted and didn’t even notice that previous versions didn’t have it. Thanks to Ryan Carson for putting this slight UX touch into light.

Firefox Mobile possible user interface

Mozilla plans to incursion in the market of mobile devices browsers, to compete against Opera Mini and Mobile Safari. Here’s a video of how the user interface will work, where he can see how this browser is oriented for touch screens like iphone’s.

This is just the first test of the concept developers are working on and it will still take a while to see it improving, or even available for testing, but it will certainly give more options in the market of Mobil device’s browsers. Right now, we only know it’s code name is “Fennec”, which is the name of a small fox with big ears.

The expected release of the new Firefox 3 is finally over. Download day is here, and you can start your download by choosing the version that suites you the best. Over 1.700.000 people commit to download this browser today in order to get the Guinness Record of the World’s Most Downloaded Software during the first 24 hours following its release.

Despite the fact this was planned with anticipation, it’s difficult to get Firefox page to load, due to the high traffic it’s facing. This should be a signal of how good the call was. If you’re having a hard time accessing the site just hit refresh a couple of times and you should get to the download link.

Today was a good day for web browsers. The newest version of Opera was released today handling out it’s newest features. Concidencially, today was announced the release date forMozilla’s browser Firefox, scheduled for June 17.
