user Interface Design: Adaptable view

One of the most distinguishable traits from the web 2.0 era is the concept of dynamic content. Back are the days when content of a web site depended exclusively on the webmasters desires. Now, users (we) decide the what, when and how. More recently I’ve been stumbling upon a new design trend were visitors can even change the appearance of a web page at will. You can now change the layout, increase contrast, or even hide certain elements to match your individual likes. The people from UI Patterns and Janko at Warp speed give us deep insight about this new possibility in UI design and user experience.

  1. those options are nice if you visit a site regularly, like smashingmagazine.com or deviantart.com. But for sites you check once and save a link of then never go back to it’s a waste of time. Either way it’s a good draw to have users return. Frankly I’m happy with themes in my email twitter and multiply.com they’re simple and diverse enough.

Hello Jjay! I’ve never used that multiply thing. How does it work? Is it worth the extra account?

  3. I like it for posting links, pics, videos, and not being swarmed by other members. If people want copies of the pics I’ve posted they can save them for free, print them if for some infathomable reason they feel like it, and I can hide albums so only users can see them (for my friends that dont want to be quite so visible to the rest of the world) I dont think it’s that crazily diff from flickr or the other photo sites, i just like how easy and concise multiply is and that they never delete older photos.

I really find these interfaces a drag. Just a trend that will pass away. Thank´s for the info.

I’m not a developer. So i didn’t understand much. But thanks anyway.

  8. Adaptable view is cumbersome. Never have used it. Never will.

  9. I currently own a Samsung Synch on the AT&T Wireless network. While I would love either an iPhone or the new Blackberry Bold, the costs of the phones and the necessary data plans are beyond my means. I currently need something with internet access and email capabilities. I need to stay on the AT&T network. Any suggestions?
