I’ve heard of Fen Sui, but…FENGUI? You are not going to believe this. But it’s true. The guys from a company called FenGui Labs have developed an application that simulates the eye movement during the first 5 seconds of exposure to an image. The objective is to achieve an optimal arrangement of your visual elements so your audience can have the most pleasant visual experience and you can get the best exposure of your product. How about that eh? This app deserves a good look, although, I have to say it´s nothing you can do better by yourself with a good read of Arnheim's "Art and Visual Perception". But then agian... hell, it does the job in two seconds! Give it a try.

Wow my eyes just scanned over that. But seriously, u ever read about the massive dough they poured into Lance Armstrongs bike and testing so he would be completely efficient and comfortable in a wind tunnel and therefore at peak performance constantly in the race?? Then they finally wise up and test out the other teammates of his only to discover the teammates had learned to alter their riding positions to both be as efficient and comfortable as Lance only without the massive shortage of greenage?? No? Well it’s true. These professionals had learned consciously and subconsciously what was necessary to be the best at what they do. What am I talking about? Well the program simulates what photographers, interior designers, exterior designers, digital artists, blah blah blah all learned to do either in class or on their own. I remember my art teacher ranting about “capture the viewers attention then draw it through the piece” of course that was generally about some still life or sculpture we had to do, but its the same general idea. Even without the tool it’s a concept thats put into practice generally without professionals even knowing – they’re so used to doing it neways.

ok i thought i wrote a comment, i thought comment posted, i dont feel like rewriting so imma just ask – whats with the sudden fascination with Gui?? Planning a little side project are we?? And Fengui sounds like something you pull out of the sink. Might be appropriately named to its use but not to a consumers palate. “put it down! No don’t eat it!!!”

That was interesting to read and to try out on one of my pictures that my boss said “I felt I was right there looking at it live”. Yet I didn’t particularly like the photo when I first saw it on my computer screen. But it ended up with like 16 visual points, and the movement kept coming back to one spot which was the focal point of the picture.

DId your boss appear in the photo GSWD? I wonder what would happen if I put a photo of my ex mother in law through FENGUI. Would there be a mathematical reason for such unbearable uneasiness?

You made me laugh Jjay, I didn’t think of it but you are right. It does sound like a nickname for some goo or blob you have to keep away from kids. “Hey bobby, get that Fengui out of your nose!”

Absurd tool. Disrespects subjectivity and good design. Too dumb for anybody to eat it up.
