100 icon sets for the most common used applications and file types

We at Iconshock have made a little bet. Nobody at the office thinks I can be able to list a hundred icons of any topic or style, for 5 straight weeks. And I’m beginning to endorse that thought too. There is so many weed in the internet, so many low quality sets, that I really don’t know how am I going to win. Nevertheless, faith is the last thing one can loose in this world right? So, I will endure in my quest to list 500 icon sets! The best thing is that you, my dear readers are the lucky ones, because regardless of the outcome, either I loose the bet or not, you are going to rejoice with the best icon sets in the world.

I really enjoyed making this list, since I have always thought that many high end applications like compositing and 3d modeling software have hideous icons that I always wanted to change, but didn’t have either the time or the will. Now that at last, the time and will is provided by my dear employers, I’ve managed to dig out the dirt and showcase the best of what’s around. Bon apetit!

Extra Extra! 100 best adobe icon sets on the net!

Didn’t like the icons Adobe proposed for their application since Suite version Cs3? Minimalism isn’t your style? I personally think the new icons are not what you would call beauty pageant runner ups, but its futile to say they are not poignant and effective. Despite general reluctance, everyone now knows that the little blue square is Photoshop, the red one is flash, and the green one is Dreamweaver; I think that is the whole point in good icon design, achieve remembrance and increase productivity with an accessible interface. Using color for analogy and process memorization always has been very effective in design and art throughout the ages. Just look at the Underground map in London to realize the power of color and simplicity.

Nevertheless, if you are disappointed with the new design, and think of it as rather lazy and just too simple, I have gathered for you the ultimate, definitive collection of Adobe icon sets in the net. There are so many styles that probably you will just get bored and go back to the default one. Delight on each of these skillful, genius attempts to reinvent the wheel. Surprisingly enough, these artists do pull it off.

And… mmm…. I hate to say it, but …again, this is biggest set on the entire Internet. Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Please tell me which one is your favorite so we can send something to the artist. A congratulation mail, a flower bouquet…a brand new Ferrari…

Free incredible 3d software icon set

3d Software is like a miracle in technology, it has changed the graphic design and film industries forever, and has empowered many other fields, like medicine and gaming. The weird part is, that many 3D applications have ugly icons. It seems as if the genius programmers ended up so exhausted, they didn’t want to invest a couple of hours more into the design of a cool icon for their apps.

We searched a lot and found that there are not many artists making 3d software dock icon sets or filetype icons. It is almost impossible to find free icons for powerful and popular packages like Mudbox and Modo, so we wanted to honor those great tools, giving to their users another possibility to revamp their looks and aid their creativity.

Programmers pack vol 3

Hello Dear icon junkies! Iconshock begins the year with the third installment of our programmer’s pack, including “registry”, “php”, “javascript”, “pearl” and “html”. Icons come in ICNS, PNG and ICO format. These are very useful icons with good contrast and distinctive symbols for each function.

Hello Icon Lovers! Just check out the lovely colours and details of this new set designed exclusively for our Blog readers. Almost all multimedia files are covered here in this brand new style. Please give us some feed back and tell us if you like this approach. They look pretty distinctive at small sizes, and can harmonize with both dark and light interfaces. Overall we think it’s an excellent set, but we need your comments to develop it further.

International holidays

Last day of the year. First day of new purposes and promises. Everyone has a own special ritual for today, and every society has different beliefs and ways to celebrate the end of a cycle and the birth of a new one. Sometimes it seems to me that life is an eternal on/off switch of habits. My new year’s eve promise for this year is to get up two hours earlier. What’s yours? First treat of the week! Ever got tired of looking at the same word icon? That acrobat pictograph is the reason of boredom in your life?? Well, Iconshock comes to the rescue!! Hail Typography!(Part 3): Basic Principles

Its very difficult to find any kind of graphic design that doesn’t have a certain degree of typography. Everything ranging from a movie to a yogurt cup needs a title and some information. Typography is almost indispensable in our day to day work, and mastering this intricate art can be half the ticket towards a punchy, beautiful and successful design.

Its curious to see that the basics of such an indispensable art form are often ignored and taken lightly by students and teachers. So let’s take a quick tour over the basics so all of you folks out there can refresh your knowledge and pinpoint academically just why that American Idol title is so hideous.

Programmers pack vol 1

A couple of months ago, one of our faithful readers asked us to make a series of icons designed specifically for programmers, since we have made all kinds of stuff for designers and artists… Well, here they are, Iconshock’s original series of developer icons. Adobe suite free icon set vol 2

Hello Icon lovers! As you might know, this blog is for sheer experimentation of styles for high quality icon sets. All suggestions are accepted. We decided to publish an Adobe Suite icon set of our own, thinking not on unity but rather in style and innovation. We gave out our Vol 1 in a cube shaped style, and this week, we are turning to a translucent oval kind of theme. Your feedback is tremendously important for us, because it’s based on your comments that we are improving and launching new designs. At last ladies and gentlemen! The circle is complete! The third and last of the series of Adobe Suite free icon sets. This set includes Bridge, Contribute, Dreamweaver, Photoshop Elements, Encore and Onlocation.
