Halloween icons

Google Buzz

What are you people going to do for Halloween? One thing I loved to do when I was a child was to watch with my friends horror films until midnight. I remember that for me, the Exorcist was the freakiest of all, it spooked me so much that still after all these years Regan’s eyes still give me the chills.

To honor all those wonderful horror films that are delighted by thousands of people on this night, Iconshock wanted to give you this treat. Five icons of the most scary and creepy films of all time. What are your top 5 horror films?

We are experimenting with a new design here, both simplistic and modern. Icons included are Iphone, Hp Touchsmart, a Generic PC, an imac, and a Samsung Cellphone. I wonder if there is any Iconshock reader out there who actually owns all this stuff at once.

100 Best hardware and gadget icon sets on the net

Google Buzz

Ok friends, now it’s four in a row. Hurray for me! Four top 100 lists in a month, only one away to make the 500 straight. I had a very good time assembling this list in particular, specially because I discovered the work of “starvingartist” with his antiseptic video game system icon set, which I truly believe is one of the best icon sets I’ve reviewed on the blog ever. There are many other gems as well, as I featured the works of well known artists and regulars like Hans Christian Løberg, Booby Perux and Javier Ocasio. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned researching for these large lists, is that no matter your field, you can never consider yourself the best of your trade. You can feel deep inside that you are good, but never be so foolish to think there is no one better than yourself. It’s so obvious that there is so many people creating stuff in this world that you will be surprised every time you take a peek at what’s happening out there. Get inspired, sit back, and enjoy!

100 icon sets for the most common used applications and file types

Google Buzz

We at Iconshock have made a little bet. Nobody at the office thinks I can be able to list a hundred icons of any topic or style, for 5 straight weeks. And I’m beginning to endorse that thought too. There is so many weed in the internet, so many low quality sets, that I really don’t know how am I going to win. Nevertheless, faith is the last thing one can loose in this world right? So, I will endure in my quest to list 500 icon sets! The best thing is that you, my dear readers are the lucky ones, because regardless of the outcome, either I loose the bet or not, you are going to rejoice with the best icon sets in the world.

I really enjoyed making this list, since I have always thought that many high end applications like compositing and 3d modeling software have hideous icons that I always wanted to change, but didn’t have either the time or the will. Now that at last, the time and will is provided by my dear employers, I’ve managed to dig out the dirt and showcase the best of what’s around. Bon apetit!

Extra Extra! 100 best adobe icon sets on the net!

Google Buzz

Didn’t like the icons Adobe proposed for their application since Suite version Cs3? Minimalism isn’t your style? I personally think the new icons are not what you would call beauty pageant runner ups, but its futile to say they are not poignant and effective. Despite general reluctance, everyone now knows that the little blue square is Photoshop, the red one is flash, and the green one is Dreamweaver; I think that is the whole point in good icon design, achieve remembrance and increase productivity with an accessible interface. Using color for analogy and process memorization always has been very effective in design and art throughout the ages. Just look at the Underground map in London to realize the power of color and simplicity.

Nevertheless, if you are disappointed with the new design, and think of it as rather lazy and just too simple, I have gathered for you the ultimate, definitive collection of Adobe icon sets in the net. There are so many styles that probably you will just get bored and go back to the default one. Delight on each of these skillful, genius attempts to reinvent the wheel. Surprisingly enough, these artists do pull it off.

And… mmm…. I hate to say it, but …again, this is biggest set on the entire Internet. Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Please tell me which one is your favorite so we can send something to the artist. A congratulation mail, a flower bouquet…a brand new Ferrari…

Iconshock interview: Css mastermind and sushi addict Jina Bolton

Google Buzz

Jina is a must reference for all of you working in web design  & development. Her opinions on CSS are one of the most respected in the designer community, being a frequent speaker in the web developer’s conference circuit and being a consultant for the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. That is big stuff for a lady so cute my friends! The W3C as you might know, is nothing more than the World Wide Web consortium, the international organization that develops all web standards. So if this girl has something to say you better listen!

Free incredible 3d software icon set

Google Buzz

3d Software is like a miracle in technology, it has changed the graphic design and film industries forever, and has empowered many other fields, like medicine and gaming. The weird part is, that many 3D applications have ugly icons. It seems as if the genius programmers ended up so exhausted, they didn’t want to invest a couple of hours more into the design of a cool icon for their apps.

We searched a lot and found that there are not many artists making 3d software dock icon sets or filetype icons. It is almost impossible to find free icons for powerful and popular packages like Mudbox and Modo, so we wanted to honor those great tools, giving to their users another possibility to revamp their looks and aid their creativity.

I wish you a good weekend. Sorry dear readers if I’ve been silent these days. Check out my post on the 100 list of file type icon sets and you will figure out what I’ve been up to. Enjoy these sets. They are really, really rare.

International holidays

Google Buzz

Last day of the year. First day of new purposes and promises. Everyone has a own special ritual for today, and every society has different beliefs and ways to celebrate the end of a cycle and the birth of a new one. Sometimes it seems to me that life is an eternal on/off switch of habits. My new year’s eve promise for this year is to get up two hours earlier. What’s yours? Anyway, silly philosophy aside, your favorite blogger wishes you a happy new year full of hope and love. This set includes six very detailed icons with a glossy finish. Enjoy!
