When designing or creating illustrations we often find that the mouse movements are very fast. Although Windows has an option for changing the speed, Slowmousion allows us to do it by just pressing a key, which comes very handy in order to simplify the process. This tool still needs some improvement, like letting us choose the speed, o selecting a different key to the offered ones to activate it.
A really fun set featuring a Circus can be downloaded at Iconshock’s Free download Website. This set of icons is full of amusing elements, as a trained elephant, a monkey on a bicycle and a clown. I ran into this post from Smashing Magazine where a great collection of Blur Photos is shown. Motion Blur is used to show movement and speed in photos. When not used we often see pictures static, but there’s a great difference between the perception you might get when this technique is used. Here you can see the complete gallery

When we create a presentation or project where video is included, we often find several problems when playing it back in a different computer than ours because they usually don’t have any codec installed. The solution so far was to avoid video compression but this represented a lot of problems, specially when it comes to portability, since without compression most files have a very large size. With MakeInstantPlayer you can convert your videos to an exe file where the codecs for the video are attached, that way you can see them anywhere
One of my all times favourite animated movies has to be Finding Nemo. This movie tells the story of a clown fish named Nemo who’s taken from his father by a diver, and his search to get his son back. This set of icons display Nemo, and the different friends presented through the movie such as Dory Bruce, Crush and Peach.
This tiny version of the stock is available in .PNG, .ICO and .ICNS, in sizes that vary from 16×16px to 256×256px at Iconshock’s Free Download Website.
Rasterbator is an application you can find online and you can also download to your computer. This application allows us to take an image and create a gigantic poster. In order to do so, it converts the image into dots, which you can vary the size. You can decide how many sheets do you want your image to fit in, define colors and borders for easily put them back together, as if it were a puzzle.
If you look the image really close you will find a bunch of dots, but as you re size it and fit it into the different sheets you’ll get excellent results. You can check the gallery for examples of really large images put back together, like this one:

Fonts are one of the most important things we have to take into account when developing a project. At Xyberneticos I found this nice list of 10 different Handwritten fonts. These fonts are available for free download al woork, where you can also find a preview.
Handwritten fonts look great for headers, and what’s interesting of this list is that you can find several styles, that I’m sure will suit any project. Remember, if you’re going to use any font different from the default ones you might want to take a look to techniques for them to display correctly.
This set of web icons inspired on pirates shows us some of the most popular elements they use. A Canyon, a Caravel, the emblematic Pirates Flag displaying a skull, a treasure box and of course, a pirate are displayed using a great variety of colors and shines. These icons would look great in an application, specially in games focused on this subject.
Thanks to the high quality of these designs, we can use them in any of the sizes, since they look great at the smaller 16×16px sizes to the larger ones (256×265px). Not only the .ICO files are provided, but you can also have access to .GIF and .PNG files in order to create buttons or use in printable material or as images or avatars.
Digilicious is a Chilean Blog about design. This week a very interesting article about User Interfaces written by Alejandro Pantoja, LEPLANCTON, was published there and I wanted to share it. So, here’s the English Version of it
We’re all familiar with the concept of GUI (Graphical User Interface), but few have heard about the TUI concept, or Tangible User Interface. What’s the difference between both? What implications does this change has on interaction experiences?
When I saw what this application could do I was very surprised. Phototourism is the result of the collaboration between the University of Washington and Microsoft Research Center. This application collects pictures from photo sharing sites or personal galleries and computes each picture’s viewpoint and sparse 3D model of the scene. It has a photo explorer interface that enables the user to interactively move around the space with a very fluent transition between each picture.
As you can see on the video, the possibilities are many, and the result looks great. I find this application very useful to create three dimensional environments and reconstructions. At I Started Somethinga PDF file explaining how they did it was linked for those interested on reading more information. And you, what do you thing an application like this one is useful for?
At Iconshock’s Community Site we can find a great variety of stock icons. Today I want to share with you an icon set featuring Space elements. This stock contains free icons of a planet, an asteroid, a satellite and a space probe, all with variations to represent actions such as delete, forward, new, close, and all actions you will need in any application. These icons have lots of detail, and yet they look great in small sizes, for this reason they can be used in any of the available dimensions that vary from 16×16px to 256×256px. This icons are available in .ICO, .GIF and .PNG formats, allowing you to use them not only in your desktop, but also in your applications as buttons and anywhere you want.
Japanese Alphabet is totally different from ours; each of the characters that make part of it are totally elaborated and symbolize a word or concept, making it very hard to learn, if you’re not a native. However, someone thought that due to the variety of formats and fluent shapes available in this alphabet, creating images with them would be possible. This idea made possible Fontpark, a Flash application developed by Yugo Nakamura, that allows user to modify the characteristics of this alphabet in order to create a design of their own. The interface is very clean and simple to use, although I had a hard time rotating the fonts. One thing I would change is the background sound, having a stop or mute button would be a nice idea
Here’s an example of the Fontpark Gallery, check their website in order to see more. By looking at an example you can also see how it was created, which is nice too.
